  • Rigid Coupling Rigid coupling is a unit of hardware used to join two shafts within a motor or a mechanical system. It is made up of a half coupling with groove on the end face and a telophragma. Rigid shaft coupling is also equipped with two shaft sleeves and a center steel shell.
  • Gear Couplings Gear coupling is a mechanical device for transmitting torque between two shafts that are not collinear. It consists of two flexible joint fixed to each shaft. The two joints are connected by a third shaft which is called spindle.
  • Flexible Coupling Flexible coupling can be made of aluminum alloy, stainless steel or engineering plastic. Elastic coupling is specifically designed and manufactured for use with feedback devices such as encoders. The goal of flexible shaft coupling design is to provide zero backlash operation that will insure encoder accuracy.
  • Universal Joints Universal joint means a joint or coupling in a rigid rod that allows the rod to bend in any direction. It has a variety of types including cross shaft shape, ball cage shape, ball fork shape, convex block shape and ball pin shape. The common characteristic of universal joint is the large angular compensation.
  • Other Shaft Couplings Founded in April 17, 2006, Zhenjiang Orienthold Machinery Co., Ltd is a high-tech enterprise which integrates designing, manufacturing and sales service of shaft couplings, wood chippers and flaking machines. Our products are widely used in forestry, transportation...

Shaft Coupling

Description
Shaft coupling is used to connect two shafts together at their ends for transmitting power. It is made up of two parts which are connected to the driving shaft and driven shaft respectively. In the overloaded power transmission, some shaft couplers have the functions of buffering, vibration reduction and improving the dynamic performance of shafting.

Application
Shaft couplings are used for several purposes, the most common of which are listed as follows. 1. Shaft coupler is used to provide for the connection of shaft units that are manufactured separately such as a motor or generator and also to provide for disconnection for repairs and alterations. 2. Shaft coupling is suitable for reducing the transmission of shock loads from one shaft to another. 3. Shaft coupler can be used to alter the vibration characteristics of rotating units.

Classification
Shaft coupler provided by our company includes rigid coupling, gear coupling, flexible coupling, universal coupling and other shaft couplings such as slider coupling, tyre coupling and roller chain coupling.

Correct Usage
1. Gear coupling and slider coupling should be lubricated every two or three months. 2. The face width contact length of gear coupling should not be less than 70% and the axial movement should not be more than 5 mm. 3. There should be no crack in the shaft coupling, otherwise it should be replaced. 4. The elastic ring of pin coupling and seal ring of gear coupling should be replaced timely if there is any damage. 5. Shaft axis deflection and radial displacement should be conformed to the provision. 6. There shouldn’t have any loose or damage in the bolts of shaft coupling. 7. When there is broken tooth in the gear coupling, the tooth should be abandoned. 8. In hoisting mechanism when the wearing parts amount to 15% of the original tooth thickness, the tooth should be replaced and in running mechanism, when it amounts to 25% the tooth should be replaced too.

Notes
There are many key factors that must be considered when choosing a shaft coupling, such as temperature, humidity, steam, oil, acid, alkali, corrosion medium, brine and radiation. If the working environment is in high temperature or low temperature with oil, acid and alkali medium, it is not optional to choose flexible coupling based on general rubber. Instead, one should choose those whose elastic components are made of metal, such as diaphragm coupling and bibby coupling.
